Till about 16 years, a group of scientists, under the scientific management of Professor Besik V. Surguladze, carring out the experimental and clinical investigations for learning medico-biological characteristics of magnetic fluids and possibilities of their application in medical practice.

The main directions the research:

 - Learning medico-biological characteristics of magnetic fluids (high disperse magnetite particles)

 - Estimation of efficiency using magnetic fluids for the treating of peritonitis and other pyo-septic processes (pyo-septic process of soft and bone tissue, indolent processes, trophic ulcers, tendinitis, persistent fistulas, paraproctitis, pleuritis, caverns of lungs, cystitis, endometritis, paradontosis, combustions and etc.).

 - Learning tuberculocidal influence of magnetic fluids.

 - Magnetic fluids in ophthalmology.

 - Magnetically guided drugs based on high disperse magnetic particles.

 - Magnetically guided local hyperthermia based on high disperse magnetic particles.

 - Magnetically guided contrast X-ray investigations based on high disperse magnetic particles.

 - Magnetic fluids in the treatment of radio pathology.

 - Learning some aspects of bio- energetic transformation in alive system

In research processes, we learned:

 1. Influence of magnetic fluids (in vitro and in vivo) on:

 - Blood cells

 - Phagocytic activity of eliminating cells

 - Proliferative activity of mononuclear cells

 - Metabolic and bacterial toxic components

 - Pathologic microorganisms

 - Generation function of organism

 2. Toxicity (chronic and acute) of magnetic fluids

 3. Mutafacient activity of magnetic fluids

 4. Teratogenecity of magnetic fluids

 5. Irritation influence of magnetic fluids

 6. Allergic influence of magnetic fluids

 7. Pharmacokinetics of magnetic fluids

On the bases of the results of the research described above, for the first time in the world we registered in pharmacological committee two kinds of drugs (0,5% suspension of magnetite and Unimag) based on magnetic fluids as the remedies for treating of peritonitis and other pyo-septic processes.

Professor Besik V. Surguladze – Chief of Scientific Laboratory «Magnetic Fluids in Medicine and Biology». Besik V. Surguladze was born in 1961, in Georgia. In 1984 he had finished Medical Faculty of the Tbilisi State Medical Institute (Cum Laude Diploma) and continued his study at Clinical Residency specializity in Surgery. After Clinical Residency, in 1986 – Besik V. Surguladze continues his study as a post graduate student with specialty – Surgery. In 1989 Besik V. Surguladze, under the scientific management of academician Guram G. Tatishvili, has defended the qualification thesis (Magnetic suspension for the treating of abdominal cavity during the operations because of peritonitis in experiment) and became Candidate of Medical Sciences (PhD). In 1989 Besik V. Surguladze begins his work at the Surgical Department of the Tbilisi State Medical Institute as a Assistant Professor. He continues scientific work for the basis of possibility and estimation of efficiency usage Magnetic Fluids in Medicine and Biology and learn the Some Aspects of Bio-Energetic Transformation in Alive System. In 1992 Besik V. Surguladze has defended the qualification thesis (Magnetic suspension in the complex of treating and prophylactic of pyo-septic complications of peritonitis) and became Doctor of Medical Sciences. In 1995 to Besik V. Surguladze was awarded degree of High Category Surgeon.

Under the scientific management Besik V. Surguladze carried out the experimental and clinical investigations in the following directions:

 - Magnetic fluids for the treating of pyo-septic processes

 - Magnetically guided drugs based on high disperse magnetic particles.

 - Tuberculocidal influence of magnetic fluids.

 - Magnetically guided local operate hyperthermia based on high disperse magnetic particles.

 - Magnetically guided contrast X-ray investigations based on high disperse magnetic particles.

 - Magnetic fluids in ophthalmology.

 - Magnetic fluids in the treatment of radio pathology.

In 1998 Besik V. Surguladze was awarded the title of professor of Tbilisi medical institute named after of the academician Egnate Phiphia. On results of investigations, described above, for the first time in the world, in the pharmacological committee two kind of drags (0,5% suspension of magnetite and Unimag) was registered based on magnetic fluids as the remedies for treating pyo-septic processes.

In 2000 Besik V. Surguladze was awarded the title of academician of Medical-Biological sciences Academy of Georgia.
